At Space Octopus, the Client's objective is paramount. Building works of any scale can be an exciting yet daunting prospect, particularly when it involves your most valuable asset – your home. We view the entire process from the Client's perspective. The early concept stages are the most crucial, as this is the starting point at which the Client Design Brief is developed, realised and finalised.
Space Octopus understands the important investment of time and attention to detail required at this Design development stage. For example, thoughts on Fire Safety strategy or how the building is serviced, can often be left too late, leading to costly design changes further on in the process. Similarly, Building Regulation constraints need to be reviewed in the initial stages, as they may impact on the design and form of the building. These considerations will therefore need to be incorporated into the design drawings prior to the preparation of a Planning application. Alongside these factors, thoughts of space, light and choice of materials all help to bring your project to life.
PROFILE
The practice is run by Shweta Waikar, a fully qualified, ARB registered Architect with over 25 years’ experience in a range of sectors from Retail to Schools to High End Residential. Shweta has a varied portfolio of work (ranging in contract values from £50k to £18m), with an excellent track record for delivering quality projects built within budget and programme, with a high level of Client satisfaction.
In her roles as Senior Architect, Design Manager and Principal Designer (CDM - Project Safety Regulations), Shweta has worked in both Architectural practices as well as Construction companies. She has gained valuable insight into every aspect of the design and construction process from initial concept through to completion on site.
Shweta carries extensive knowledge and experience of Planning law, The Party Wall Act and Building Regulations as well as the Contractor tendering process, and can offer sound advice regarding all the Design & Construction steps involved, including costs and timescales for managing a small or large scale project.

The practice delivers Concept Design options, development of the Client's Design Brief, offering sound Planning advice, liaising with Local Authority Planners and submitting your Planning application. Similarly, we manage Building Regulations via liaison with Building Control. You will receive advice on appointments of relevant Surveyors, Designers and Engineers as well as guidance on costs and programme of works. We can also advise on the tendering procedure and building contract analysis, making selecting a reputable Building Contractor less of an ordeal. All this will enable you to prepare effectively and turn your home improvement or residential development dream into an exciting reality
